Exercising your Teenager

Teenagers can sometimes be a hard age group to motivate when it comes to exercising. Many will naturally be interested in sports and will join their school team. But for others, it takes a little more motivation.

As the parent, you are responsible for motivating your children. There are lots of ways to encourage them to exercise without nagging or just telling them to be active. For example, plan a weekend hike for your family or rent a few bicycles to tour the neighborhood. This would be a fun activity you could remember the rest of your lives.

Another way to get them exercising is to incorporate physical activity into their chores. At this age, they’re able to mow the lawn, wash the car or even do some gardening. Of course, these are activities you can participate in too, if you so desire.

If they’re interested, and if the budget allows, you could also get a family membership to your local gym. Or join a swim club in the summer. Even regular visits to an amusement or water park will at least get them outdoors and active.

Many teenagers don’t like being cooped up in the house anymore. They’d rather spend time with their friends or join in a fun activity outdoors. Motivating these kids shouldn’t be much trouble. But, for those who need a little more encouragement, be creative in your approach. Don’t just nag them to get off the couch, give them a reason to do so.
